Gettysburg

Gettysburg Address...amazing
They weren't having a reenactment in Gettysburg, but I still really wanted to see it, so we decided to make a small detour on our way to Hershey (which is only about 50 miles from Gettysburg) and do a quick look around. We arrived about 2 in the afternoon...and much to my delight it was awesome. What was supposed to be a quick pit stop, turned into 8 hours of site seeing. I definitely wished we had had more time. I did not realize how cool and amazing it would be. We were not able to look at everything, and read all the history and memorials...so we plan on going back next summer while Les is still out East. THIS was MY favorite part of the trip. It was very humbling and awesome that is for sure. To actually stand in the spot the Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address, and where the first shot was fired, and where so many men gave their lives for something they believed in. It was fun to tour the town which so many houses were built in the late 1700-early 1800's. They had houses that were part of the underground railroad, and they had preserved the hide outs for the slaves. It was amazing. I also was amazed by the story of how they had left all the men who had died on the battle field, and didn't go back till years later to give them a proper buriel in the cemetery. It took them 5 mos to move the bodies, and there are so many graves of unknown soldiers. I can't wait to go back...and I'm hoping to be able to catch a reenactment.
