Ford Theater
Where Lincoln was shot
After Lincoln was shot, they took him across the street to this house....where he then died in the early morning.
Because Lincoln memorial is my absolute favorite, I really wanted to go to Ford Theater to tour where Lincoln had been shot. We learned that after Lincoln was shot, the people rioted and tore the theater to shreds. I was a little sad to learn they had replicated the theater shortly after. We didn't quite have enough time to tour the house across the street where I was told the bed Lincoln had died on is still in fact there. We had tickets to the spy museum...something the kids had been begging to go see every time we came to DC. Some other time maybe. It was a long line, and it was probably 100 degrees outside.
I have taken great delight to learn the history of our country. I have learned more than I ever did in school (my own fault for not paying attention), but my kids as well are learning so much and have gotten to see more than they ever could with just a trip. We try to go see something new (a new museum, memorial, theater) every time we come in to town. They are really getting in to it too. It's pretty cool to hear them say little things like, "did you know president Lincoln did this, or George Washington did that?"
