In the wee hours of New Year's we had disaster strike. Our sewer line backed up. It has been a headache...and of course not getting this New Year off to a great start. Over the course of days we have learned that the sewer line was a problem when we bought the house, and of course it was not disclosed in the sale. The restoration company uncovered a flood line of mold resulting in more walls being torn out. It has been quite the domino effect with more and more of the basement having to be remodeled. Unfortunately our homeowner's insurance only covered a very small portion of this cost. I recommend taking a closer look at your insurance coverage as we only had $5000 for sewer line back-up coverage. Unfortunately our sewer line will not be covered as 30 ft of sewer had "settled" and is considered wear and tear. Our total for this little "mishap" is right around 15,000. Les and I will be looking at 10,011 dollars out of pocket. Ouch. Homeownership is great!
